Project Description
For my project 3, I started with the book Of Mice and Men for ELA portion. I then found out that this book was the same time period of the great depression. My Art portion is connected to my ELA. For each one of my projects I provided an explanation of why I did what I did.
Histoy
Since the book I’m read for English takes place in the 1930s, I decided to do my history portion of my project on the Great depression. 1932 was one of the hardest years for the US causing some people to write letters to Mrs.Roosevelt asking for money. For my history portion of my project I wrote at 3 letters to Mrs.Roosevelt from the perspective of someone who lives in the city, a farm, and a letter written by a latin American. In these letters I am convincing Mrs.Roosevelt to send money.trying to convince her to send money. Reasoning take a big roll in this project because in the letters I give reasons why people at the time desperately need money.

Of Mice and Men Friendship Connection
In the book, Of Mice and Men, Lennie and George have a great friendship. In the book George always has Lennie’s back and although Lennie is mentally challenged, he still has George’s back. When George and the other guys go to a bar Lennie goes into the barn to pet his pup but begins talking to a character named Crooks. Crooks is a black man and doesn't get talked to because “He smells.” Crooks opens up to Lennie about how he wishes he had someone to talk to. He says that he wishes someone could tell him what he's seeing is not there. Then Crooks goes on to ask Lennie what he would do if George were not to return. Lennie was a bit startled, he thought something had happened to George. Crooks explains to Lennie he was “just supposing”.
This got me thinking about how Lennie was not able to answer Crook's question. Lennie doesn't know life without George. George has always been there to take care of him. I believe that in a good friendship you don't really picture life without your best friend. I began thinking about things that go well together but not so good alone. I came up with the combination of ketchup and fries. I think this connection fits well with the relationship George and Lennie have. In my opinion fries can be eaten alone and be just fine kind of how George would be able to live life alone. On the other hand, ketchup isn't too good on its own kind of how Lennie wouldn't be good on his own.
George looks out for Lennie, he keeps him out of trouble. For the most part when Lennie was with George everything would be fine but the moment George either left to go somewhere or was out doing something, Lennie would somehow find trouble. George had told Lennie and Candy not to mention their plan of the farm to anyone. Although Lennie never got into trouble because of this, he still wasn't supposed to mention it. When the guys were out in the fields playing their game Lennie was left alone in the barn where his pup was at. Lennie ended up killing his pup even after everyone including George told him the pup was too young still. If George would have been by his side he could have told him he is being too aggressive with the pup. Also, when Lennie was alone in the barn Curlie’s wife had come in to talk to Lennie. Lennie was told not to talk to her because she is in trouble. Lennie did good by constantly telling her he wasn't supposed to talk to her but still he gave in and ended up doing the worst. Once again, if George was there this probably wouldn't have happened.
It is obvious that George and Lennie have a strong friendship where they depend on one another. This relationship George and Lennie have is like ketchup and fries. Fries aren't too bad on their own while ketchup needs fries to get that good taste.

Art
For my the Art portion of my project I painted a picture of a ketchup bottle and fries. After reading the book Of Mice and Men, I describe George and Lennie's friend ship like ketchup and fries. To start this painting I sketched the ketchup and the fries. Then I painted the background a nice blue. To begin painting the ketchup and fries holder, I started with dark reads and as I got to the middle, I went lighter and lighter with the read. To paint the fries I got different shades of yellow and painted some sides light and others darker. This made the fries look 3D. Then I made different shades of grey for the cap of the ketchup bottle and the logos. After everything was done I used a thin paint brush to write the lettering. Finally my piece was complete.
